NSW south coast - Jervis Bay

Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone's dived on the NSW south coast - specifically at Jervis Bay?

We're based in Sydney and keen to do it around October. Apparently humpback whales, southern wright whales, seals, weedy sea dragons and other awesome small stuff.

Found a PADI operator (and seemingly the only one that comes up immediately on google): http://www.deep6divingjervisbay.com/
Not surprising, because in the smaller towns around Australia it's usually dominated by 1 or 2 operators. Like in South West Rocks (north coast).

Just wondering what people thought of it? Whether it was any good / worth going / etc?

Jervis Bay is a great dive location, the underwater life is abundent.
There are so many different dive spots, which range from beginner to advanced. There is a great Livaboard called Ocean Trek which is great for a week end trip. I hope this is of help.

Just to let you know there is an australian dive forum which would be better to ask these types of questions as there are not that many aussies on this site that I have found. the web site is http://www.diveoz.com.au/

Thanks for that! And thanks for the reference for the Australian forum - haha you're right, more likely to hit the target audience.

We're both Advanced and we've just returned from an amazing trip in the Maldives - so I don't forsee any problems with the level of diving. But obviously it's good to get a review on what other divers thought of the site(s).

Do you happen to know who "Ocean Trek" is operated by? Is it a PADI shop?

not sure if you know but there is a underwater wedding on in wollongong on the 5th of April, the couple are trying to break the world record for the most people. you should check it out or contact your local dive shop to see if they have heard of it. My local dive shop is Pro Dive Cronulla and we are heading down.

Call me cynical/judgemental, but I absolutely cannot validate the exhibitionist aspect of such a choice. I mean, by all means it will be fun for the spectators! But who wants their wedding to be a circus (with an audience of complete strangers)?

Thanks for the URL! Have joined the dive-oz forum and got a massive response to my query! Unfortunately it's already kind of dissolved into a bit of a bitchy banter about Jervis Bay vs Nelsons. Haha

haha and all you want is a short and sweet answer, thats seems to be the prob in most forums. If you ask me they are both great dive locations

as for the wedding it got cancelled, not sure why??

Being a little biased in that ive only ever dived JB off Ocean trek i couldnt reccommend them more strongly. Lynn and Mick run a good operation that caters for the many. Site vary inside and out of the bay. Food on board is never ending and yes it is a PADI shop so to speak. They run course straight off the back of the boat.

I realise it's a little discriminatory, but I tend to evaluate all private 'travel' operators by their website - so naturally, an unimpressive website tends to bode ill feeling. Then again, save-money-diving.com is pretty simplistic, but their search results have proved awesome for the Maldives!

So I tend to take recommendations from others quite seriously

I will second the Ocean Trek comment...I live in Melbourne Australia and I've been twice and I hope to go back this year. Lyn and Mick are great fun, good food, great diving. They're planning on retiring soon so get in while you can
