Ok, Molikini crater is probably the best dive site.....somewhat touristy though....Maui has lots of a few species of fish, lots of a few species of har coral, but not much in the way of invertebrates and plants.

It is fun though to rent a car and drive around the entire island on the road that goes around all the way. Rent a convertable, it is total fun!

I visited and did some diving.....right off shore is nothing spectacular, but still worthwhile.

I am a hardcore mountain biker so rather than taking the tourist trap so called mountain bike trip where they haul you up, then you coast down Molikini Crater on cruiser bikes, I decided to mountain bike by myself all the way up, THEN coast down.

    Default Maui diving

IMO, Molokini's best divess are along the back wall (experienced divers) and the deep rims along the edges, not the crater area. Al Mentioned B&B, which is indeed a good op. I've also had nice dives there with Ed Robinson's op (they have a 3-tank advanced diver trip that is nice). A good op that also takes snorkelers is Trilogy.

However, there is more to Maui diving than Molokini. I would suggest a trip out to Lana'i to dive in the lava tubes and "cathedrals" there. Go with Extended Horizons.

There is an op called Maui Dreams that focuses on shore dives, but I have never been out with them, so can't recommend them from personal experience.

I live in Kihei, Maui. I work at the Maui Dive Shop. We book just about everything on the island. You can rent scuba gear there and there are quite a few off shore dives sites. Let me know if you want me to send you a map and point out a few sites also if you would like to get some things booked before you get here I can get you all set up and help plan your whole vacation. Let me know.....Suema

    Default About Hawaii...

We just returned from Oahu, the Big Island and Maui. We spent only one night on Oahu with friends and then over to the B.I. for a night dive with the Manta Rays (here for 4 days) then over to Maui for 7 days to dive Molokini.

The Mantas were excellent as we had 13 of them join out dive. There isn't very good diving in Hawaii as far as fish and coral go but in Hawaii you have such a good cance to see bigger animals like the mantas, sharks and dolphins and whales. On Maui we also saw a manta on a day dive and dove off Molokini at "Reefs End" as we have dove the inside and the "outside" previously. The dive off Molokini was great, seen four sharks, two greys and two white tips, also a large red frogfish, the viz wa very good.
The volcano was very interesting to see on the B.I.
We think that Maui is one of the most beautiful spots to stay in the world (at Kaanapli).
We rented a Harley one day to tour around Maui. We saw whales every day from shore and heard them singing underwater on every dive on Maui. We also did some snorkeling and we think Black Rock on Maui is about as good as any diving on Maui.
On the B. I. we did some snorkeling too. We snorkeled at "point of refuge" and had 21 sninner dolphins around us for an hour.
Hawaii has such diverse above water beauty, this was our third trip.
