Hawaii Divers Loses Camera, Washes Ashore in Taiwan

Lindsay Scallan was on a dive trip in Hawaii in 2007 when she lost her underwater camera on a night dive in Maui. Scallen reported that a Chin Airlines employee found the camera and the memory card still held all the photos.

""I was pretty disappointed because I had all my vacation pictures on there. Plus, the cost of the camera." says Scallan.

6 years later the camera washed up on a beach in Taitung, on the east coast of Taiwan, and was picked up by two China Airlines’ staff, Douglas Cheng and Tim Chuang. to their surprise, the camera was still working and the images were searched through for clues. One photo showed the name of a catamaran called Teralani 3 which turned up a registration in Hawaii.

The Taiwanese airline then created a Facebook page, “China Airlines is looking for you,” with a few images of Scallan from the memory card. They also contacted Hawaii News Now to help search for the owner. This lead an acquaintance of Scallan to see the article and contact her.

"I just was floored that it was my camera and it was all my old pictures and it was amazing," said Scallan. "I just couldn't believe it had floated so far, so long ago and the memory card was still intact." says Scallan.



China Airlines offered to fly Scallan from her home in George to have the man who found it delivery it to her in person.
