    Default Anyone any idea?

Hi all. New to the forum as I am a snorkeller only.

While on an extended trip to Mauritius (still here) my wife found the following on the surf line on the beach while looking for shells.

It's far too perfect to be a worn down shell.

Any ideas as to what it might be would be very welcome. Is has a hard smooth surface like a cowrie.

    Regards

    David

These are Operculums (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operculum) They are the Doors for spiral shells attached to the foot of the mollusk and when it withdrawals into the shell it seals off the opening! In the early part of the previous century they were used as doll eyes!
