Been at Oztek all weekend and got to talk to Lamar Hires about the unit and im still not impressed. Its just not for me.
The no caustic cocktail was also confirmed. I liked that a lot but its not enough to buy a unit on alone.

Buying a CCR takes some research and trials.
It is a very personal choice.
It took me a while to decide which one was for me and why.
At the end of day, it doesn't really matter what the brand name is.
Basically they all do the same thing.
No bubbles and 3 to 4 hours of a diving at a time if you wish
What counts is that it meets your diving style and your criteria for fun and adventure!
    Take care!

Default My reaseon for chhosing the Optima

    Support.
When I was researching various models, I attempted to contact
the manufactuer, the distributors, trying to locate respective instructors,
and receiving ZERO response from most and responses from instructors months later,
I took this as a sign, being as frustrated as I was. Then one day after work and spending
the day looking for more rebreather options
I walked into a dive shop that evening and was asked, "Do you want a rebreather?"
My eyes popped out of my head thinking, WOW, I never said a word to this shop and here
they are asking me if I want a rebreather.
After the experiences of the past months and having Dive-Rite just an hour away
(visiting the company in Lake City, the people have always been great), having an instructor
in the local area, everything added up to the rite decision. I do not regret it and I love the unit.
So when looking, functionality is important, but when something breaks, how easy is it to get support.
The unit uses all standard DR eqquipment. If there is an DR rep near by, you could possibly be diving
the unit that day, or at least the next.

Good luck on your RB hunting..

Hey lars2923, sorry about the lengthy delay in getting back to you.
Yes it is the same Matt! A great instructor and a great human being.
It's been a very busy teaching year. I am just getting a break now.
I am not complaining, busy is good.
Just haven't had time to get on the boards.
    I am home until November.
Going to Truk Lagoon on a rebreather trip and then teaching in Florida for a few months.
    Take care,

    Cornel

    Default Optima

How do you like your unit?
I enjoy the Optima, just got certified onn it in October, and not much diving on it yet, looking forward to the summer.
What positive experiences do you have diving the optima?
My instructor (Joe Radomski) was excellent.
How would you compare diving the Optima to open Circuit?
Ihad been previously certified on a Drager Dolphin so CCR is quite similar, LOVE the new electronics on the Optimas!
Are you in or near Florida?
My mom live in Venice, FL so I get to see her a few times a year.
Interested in an Optima Divers get together for a day or two of diving?
I am always interested in getting wet, if I am in the area, I will try and contact you.

I recently sold my Optima and moved to a rEvo. I am in S Florida (fort lauderdale area) and still dive with many Optima divers. If you are looking for Optima divers in my area, just PM me for contact info. We have a group called SCRUBs that do a lot of diving in the area.
