Snorkeling with a dive knife

Anyone know if there are areas where bringing a pocket knife is not allowed in snorkeling areas near the shore or on dive cruises?

Well just in case I get tangled for whatever reason. Sort of a just in case as I'll be in Maui. I heard a rumor from a friend that some places they don't allow you to carry a knife.
