Here is a short from a recent shoot I was on. Main shoot is with RED, but this footage is from my XHA1.

    John,

    Great cinematography, awesome cinematic score.

    1. Why was the solitary seal lion hiking up the cliff side bluff? To where? What was up there for him or her?

    2. Your text said "eventually" a Red Epic. Are the Epics out now?

    Anyway, great job.

I have no idea why the pups climb that hill! It was about 38C that day, dusty as hell and the top of the island had heaps of tiger snakes (really dangerous even by ozzie standards!)....
    The little buggers are mad!

Epic isn't out yet, but the guy I am shooting with is on the waiting list, it should be here sometime in Sept / Oct, but you know what RED are like it could be 2010!!

    Great stuff Jon

Love the panning time-lapse, how'd you do that?

Looking forward to the underwater bit.

    Cheers

We had a motorised dolly which you can program at different speeds. We actually did a few shots with RED where we set the dolly at the top on the edge of the cliff and so it looks like the cam is flying off the edge. It was done with a 14mm Master Prime lens too so it's super wide and super sharp, I reckon it may be the opening shot for the actual film. Below are a couple of screen grabs from RED.

Hey Jon,didn't you know, everyone who makes 10,000 posts here gets a Red camera! lol

I am not following you on the motorized dolly thing for the fast motion time lapse pan. I know what a dolly shot is, but I am not following how that would be used for a the slow pan with sped up time lapse clip we are all raving about.

Okay so it is a long slide that is rock solid and doesn't vibrate, you then program it so that it travels at a constant speed and takes in this instance 40 mins to travel around 3m. Then when you speed it up on time lapse it pans faster but you get the sunrise.

We used it on loads of different shots, it's amazing what a little movement does. It was designed to only be used in a studio so it we had to be pretty careful with it. It also weighed about 30 kgs, so with the cam and tripod weighing another 30-40kgs it was loads of fun constantly changing angles (unfortunately we only had one RED) to get a full sequence.

I'll see if I have any footage of it in action and post it.
