Default Interesting New Video Tech Group

We are pleased to report on a new organization that will be of interest to us videographers that we just joined.

This group is new nonprofit educational cooperative known as the Digital Cinema Society. The group has gained industry wide recognition in the first few years of existence. They count many UW Cinematographers among themselves, including Howard Hall, Tom Campbell & Vince Pace, (the underwater cinematographer for James Cameron's projects including Titanic, Aliens of the Deep, etc), as well as John Ellerbrock, Owner of Gates Housings and Anthony Lenzo, Owner of AirSeaLand who both manufacture great housings. They held a well attended event on the subject which you can find streaming in the member area of the website. You'll also find details of new cameras and editing systems of interest.

The Digital Cinema Society has an international membership nearing 4,000 and they count some of the top filmmaking, technology, and business leaders in the Entertainment Industry among their membership, proudly serving as a conduit for these diverse disciplines to work together. Academy Award winning Filmmakers such as Michael Mann and Frank Marshall, are joined by dozens of ASC Cinematographers, ACE Editors, leading Technologists, and top management from almost every important business in the Entertainment Industry.

Created to address the information needs of producers, directors, cinematographers, post-production specialists, and exhibitors, this nonprofit organization is open for membership to all entertainment industry professionals.

The Digital Cinema Society’s purpose is not to advocate for digital technology, but to objectively examine all media, solutions, services, and technologies without favoring any one brand, service, or format over another.

Membership benefits include a monthly e-Newsletter, admission to regularly scheduled educational presentations, and access to the members site with streaming coverage of past events, and news of the latest developments in the field of Digital Cinema.

The Digital Cinema Society has a library of streaming “Knowledge On Demand” that now includes programs such as the Lighting Workshop featuring four prominent ASC Cinematographers, as well as presentations of new equipment like the RED One, Phantom 2K & 4K, Dalsa Origin & Evolution, Panavision's Genesis, Arri D-20, Sony F23 & XDcam HD, Panasonic HDX900 & HPX3000, Silicon Optics SI2, all the small format HD camera systems, and panel discussions on subjects such as HD Desktop Editing, Look Management, The Role of the Digital Imaging Technician, Underwater Cinematography, 4K for Production, Post, & Projection, Sound Recording for Digital Image Capture, Digital Storage Solutions for Production & Post, Metadata, What's New From NAB 2005 through 2008, as well as excerpts from the documentary, "Digital Cinema Solutions".

Right now in the planning stages is a group meeting titled: "How To Monetize Your Stock Footage", and DCS will inform members about how they can go about registering their content with stock footage libraries to get a return on their investment of time and equipment. This meeting should be of interest to anyone who has shot quality footage, underwater and otherwise so you can possibly make some $ off your footage that otherwise is just laying around.

We are pleased to announce that the Digital Cinema Society is letting us offer our members here a free 1 year trial Digital Cinema Society membership. You now having nothing to lose and everything to gain! You can find an instant membership application here

I just attended their last meeting which was "How to Monetize Your Video Footage" where they had two stock footage houses present and on the panel.

I had a chance to speak with both of them about what they would like from the underwater video community and I must say, it was REALLY interesting and informative and I will have a LOT more to say on this subject soon.
