New HD cams at CES
Sony anounced some new HD videocams at the CES Show.
Of special interest to videographers will be the below HDR-HC7. Aside from higher res 3200K pixel count of the CMOS chips, of special interest to underwater videographers will be the fantastic 2 LUX rating of the camera.
It has a LANC terminal so housing manufacturers will be able to house this. The optics are: 35mm Equivalent: 40-400mm(16:9 Camera Mode), 49- 490mm (4:3 Camera Mode), 40-400mm (16:9 Memory Mode), 37-370mm (4:3 Memory Mode)
Recording at a full 1920 x 1080i resolution, the below GZ-HD7 Everio outputs at a full 1:1 pixel ratio to high definition displays, which in turn results in an even higher quality image. The camera also features three 1/5-inch CCDs, USB 2.0, iLink / FireWire / IEEE 1394, and HDMI. Everios are also known for their built-in hard drives, allowing for tapeless recording. This one doesn’t disappoint, as it includes a 60 GB hard drive - not a ton of storage for recording 1080i video, but definitely enough for the average consumer/prosumer. This all comes to you at the price of $1,799.95 USD, and is scheduled for an April 2007 release.
Below is Sanyo's Xacti HD2, a small high-definition digital video camera that also takes still images — at 7.1 megapixels. The Xacti HD2 is coming in March, 2007 for $699.99.
The Xacti HD2 doesn’t use DV tape or mini DVDs to record video. Instead, it uses SDHC flash media cards. As a result, the camera is tiny, measuring 3.1 x 4.7 x 1.4 inches and weighing 8.3 ounces, including the battery.
A single 8GB card can store up to three hours of HD video, up to eight hours of SD video or thousands of digital still images, according to Sanyo. The Xacti HD2 also features better low light sensitivity. It also features a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port, a digital interface that enables you to output directly to HDTVs, high-def video recorders and other sources equipped with HDMI.
The Xacti HD2 also features a 10x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, 1280 x 720 progressive (720p) HD video scanning at 30 frames per second, and MPEG-4 support. It sports a 2.2-inch LCD display that flips out and rotates to 285 degrees.
You can capture video in 16:9 format for record in “Web-SHQ” mode to capture at 320 x 240 pixels and 30 frames per second — a mode optimized for video playback intended for video iPods and other media players.
