I have been referring to a particular shrimp as a Periclimenes zanzibaricus, which is what I see over the Internet, but now I am seeing the same shrimp referred to as a Dasycaris zanzibarica.
I don't think they can have two different scientific names for the same species.
Ideas?

So are they the same? Or would Geography be enough?
The shrimp look identical and those links even have a cross references to both Periclimenes and Dasycaris, hence the confusion.
I thought scientific names were specifically to avoid confusion! lol.
As far as I can tell both names are current and valid and are not synonymous (they refer to different organisms).

searches produce 2 different shrimp for me. can you post a pic of the shrimp you are referring to.

Now I get a great kick out of Jim writing in the scientific names of his subjects.....and he identified his shrimp shot as a Dasycaris sp, and I think it is the zanzibarica as in Dasycaris zanzibarica.
I identified the shrimp in my HD video as Percilmenes zanzibaricus.
They look identical to me, hence my confusion.
I found it listed as Dasycaris zanzibarica in my books.
So what is the difference between a Dasycaris zanzibarica and a Periclimenes zanzibaricus?
One is a Dasycaris and the other is a Periclimenes! One was found in the Seychelles and the other in the Philippines?:rolleyes:
