Warning: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in ..../includes/class_bbcode.php on line 2962 Housing for Canon G9
I plan to buy a Canon PowerShot G9 for underwater use. I have a Canon EOS 30D, but I do not intend to use it underwater. I would like to seek advice on the choice of housing for the G9. I'm not comfortable with the Canon housing because its depth rating is only 130 ft. (or less?). I would also like to know the pros and cons for the top choices. By the way, if you have negative feedbacks on the G9, please let me know. Thanks.

Dennis,
I think your only remaining good choice is the Ikelite housing for the G9.
This will hopefully be available in the U.S. very soon.

Welcome to the SMN Community MV, and thanks for the tip!
The housing looks really interesting, in that with luck it is more form fitting to the G9 rather than using a basic larger housing and just modifying the control positions for a specified camera.
Thanks for your inputs. I like the compact appearance of the Sea&Sea MDX-G9. I'll contact the Philippine distributor to check when this will become available locally.

damn, ¥135,000 for that housing, that is like $1250. unless that price of ¥35,000/$325 at the bottom is for housing alone. lets hope so.

I guess its a mute point now.
We were just told that this housing will not be available in the U.S.

All aluminum houisng for the G9. Depth rating of 120m. Just shy of $1000. It's not the Sea&Sea, this one's by Patima. Looks like it also comes with 3 different ports, basic, WA & Closeup.
I have sold many Ikelite housings for G9 and I have heard a lot great stuff about it from my customers. Pricewise, Ikelite wins. Either way, they have their pros and cons.
Patima housings are also pretty good. Both housings functions equally well in my opinion.
Plexi - you can see whats happening inside and see the Orings seal.
Aluminum - you cant see the Orings, but body is more robust.
Its really your choice. Drop by the shop if you have any further questions or email me.
