Is his next great adventure with Great Whites?
Matt
Worse, it is skinny dipping.
Welcome to the edge of stupidity!
Oh well, some people never learn.
I just hope no one blamed the eel! Hopefully he learned his lesson to observe and not interrupt!
well as i said before divechick, "I DON'T SKINNY DIP! I CHUNKY DUNK!! ":D
i hope that cat learned his lesson... man that was brutal.
he shouldnt have fed/teased the Moray.
in my eyes, and i do teach this in diving courses "any marine animal swims away from you very fast, is almost harmless, the ones that we should beware of/keep away from are the slow ones and the ones that stay put when you get near."
we teach, not to handle/feed/tease/provoke and bother marine life here.
not a very clever thing to do would be to play with an animal that we are not 1000% farmiliar with in an invironment not our own.
the video, im glad to say served its perpose as we use it to show new divers in courses what happens.
im sorry that the ones that often get hurt are often the "more experianced" ones.
till i saw that vid, a while back, i played with some moreys, after i got to know them personally alittle, not any more.
I've dived at this site!!! Its in the Similan islands off sw Thailand. There are plenty stupid DMs and dive leaders intimidating this creature. Heres a video of the same eel (2 thirds of the way thru @ 2.25mins) The coral that it lives under was knocked over by another idiot diver in 2004.

either way you look at it, that cat had gotten what he had comming.
I found the original story in the Phuket Gazette. I like how the diver glosses over how he was teasing the eel with food, as the video doesn't lie.
Eel Makes Meal of Diver's Thumb
Well, I wanted to chime in and say I saw the video, so... I saw the video. Everything else was but need not be said.
Have a good day.

I took the food – a sausage wrapped in a plastic bag – from the pocket of my BCD vest and threw it to her.
Yeh, that's just what the video showed ... hmmmmm .... At least it says he will never feed eels again ...
Just taken a look at this thread and I gree with everything said here.
And for those who are interested, here's the Youtube video showing what he finally ended up with after a little more surgery and some rehab.

I've dived it as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvhQzF75-BQ - It used to come out and greet divers. The above video was taken a few weeks before the incident.
