Warning: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in ..../includes/class_bbcode.php on line 2962 Emergency Dive Strobes
There is a much larger choice of strobes these days. Some are much larger than the previous models of a decade ago. The newer models can have C batteries and much larger Xenon flash bulbs that have a much higher output that can be seen for miles above water.
I thought the same thing, but I took it to 510meters and it did just fine.
Seriously I think $120, but we dive in a dark lake, helps us know when the floor is coming up so we put on the brakes and avoid a silt out mess. It outshines the OMS, and I like the switch action, worth the cash. Someone told me, this is the Coast Gaurd's prefered strobe.

Where do you connect this? I have seen some attach them to their 1st stage and turn it on for the entire dive. I have seen others attach them to their BC's and only use them in an emergency.
Looks like a GREAT safety item and a great item for black water diving.

from what ive read this, AQ4, seems to be perhaps the best on the market, 500mtrs, visible up to 10kms on a clear night, 48GBP, it looks kinda big tho, and i wish it ran on lithiums instead of a standard C cell...might get one anyway...

a C battery will last for a long time. It's not like a dive light where you will be using it all the time.
