Description}: The view/house reef in front of the local dive shop (my room for the week was right above it). Turtles often surface for a breather. The waves can get really rough.

Description}: I traveled from Ticao to Tubbataha (in the Philippines) for mantas but Monad Shoal in Malapascua is the closest distance to and longest encounter (I had to ascend before one was through with me) with them I've had.

Description}: Donsol, Sorsogon has "interaction officers" who put you in a boat and and take you where there's a greatest chance of a whaleshark or butanding (in Filipino) encounter. Description}: My first night dive in Tubbataha had over 10 marine turtles sharing the same space. I was bewildered but ridiculously happy.
