DIVING clubs across Northumberland are hoping for a surge of interest with the county’s coastline set to receive television exposure.

The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) believes more people in the county will be inspired to try scuba diving by a BBC series which will feature the Farne Islands.

The four-part BBC2 documentary series is entitled ‘Britain’s Secret Seas’.

The third episode – which will air on Sunday, May 22, at 8pm – is called ‘The Power of the East’. In it, a team of experts, including presenter and BSAC diver Paul Rose, dive off the Farne Islands.

BSAC has three dive clubs in Northumberland, at Blyth, Hexham and Morpeth.

Neil Fraser, of Morpeth Dolphins Sub-Aqua Club, said: “This is a fascinating programme and we are sure that it will spark a lot of interest in scuba diving among people throughout Northumberland who have never tried the sport before.”
