SouthWest has announced a new way to try to pry more $ out of travelers pockets. It is misleadingly called "early-bird check-in". You don't get to board any sooner, you just get the alleged privilege to "check-in" with them before some others.

It is a solution looking for a problem.

I think it is about $10 USD each way.

With airlines charging for luggage, more people are using cary-on luggage, and those bins fill up fast! So some people will pay to get ahead of others, and get their luggage in the bins!
Some airlines want to charge for the cary-ons!
Airlines are :beat::beat: the paying publ;ic to death!

So in other words, if an airline passenger pays off the airline, it gives them the right to cut in front of others when it comes to overhead storage? :D

Maybe for a small fee those that don't pay a fee won't lose their overhead luggage space to those that pay a fee and register early.
