Sony Unveils HDR-FX1000 1080p, 3CMOS Videocam

Sony has announced that in November they will be shipping their new HDR-FX1000 3 CMOS videocamera.

This camera is designed to replace the venerable HDR-FX1 3CCD HDV 1080i videocam.

The FX1000 will have 24p/30p shooting modes for cine like look, and will record at 1080p, not interlaced. it is said that the FX-1000 also has an HDMI output.

Also of note is the switch from a 12x fixed lens to the G-series lens capable of zooming to 20X. Also, the videocam has a claimed LUX rating of 1.5, far better than the 3 lux rating of the FX1/Z1U.

Is this tape or HD based?

It's tape but it appears that in Japan at least they have a device that attaches to the back and it simultaneously captures to cards.

Well why aren't they going for a hard disk for the larger camera? Similarly for Canon XH-G/A1. Isn't the HD technology not developed enough?

Its about Compression Ratios and Storage! Tape is still best, the file system on the Hard Drives can't store 25mb per second HD rate without major compression. Consumer cameras are not the same quality of play back etc!

Anyone compared the Sony to the Canon?

Maybe the data rate of 3 ccd/cmos would be even higher. But then I know that HDDs can handle even higher data rates.

AVCHD is not true HD, but the camera is capable of recording or "Seeing" true HD the Hard drive is not big enough to store true uncompressed HD.
