Around 1960 Sub-Marine Systems built their S-1000. It was equipped with a liquid 02 cylinder yet had no scrubber.

As the liquid 02 expanded, the cold froze out the C02. max depth of 200 meters and a run time of 6 hours. P02 was changeable and could be set between .2 and 2.0 without electronics by controlling the 02 temperature which controlled the liquid to gas equilibrium pressure.

The diluent used was either liquid nitrogen or helium depending on the depth of the dive. The unit could freeze out 7-8 ounces of carbon dioxide per hour from the loop, corresponding to an oxygen consumption of 2 liters per minute.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebreather#Cryogenic_rebreather

Are there any pictures or drawings of it?

Have you heard of any attempts at making such a rebreather since?
